Mission
Ashti is an Apparel Company focusing on art, textiles, and graphics inspired by the SWANA Region, specifically Kurdistan and the Kurdish Culture. We create traditional, unique, and timeless graphics, which are then applied on to the highest quality garments. We aspire to use 100% eco friendly products, dedicating ourselves to long term sustainability.
The Founder
My name is Soma S. Abdullah and I am the founder of Ashti Apparel. My goal with Ashti Apparel is to collaborate with the talented artists, specifically women, from the region and showcase the work that often times goes unnoticed. If you’re an artist or creative that wants to collaborate, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at AshtiApparel@gmail.com.
I am Kurdish American – raised in Minnesota, but born in Rawanduz, Kurdistan. I completed my MBA at Hamline University and my BSc in Business Administration at the American University in Iraq- Sulaymaniyah. My full time career is in the financial services industry as an accountant for one of the top three banks in the US. As much as I love my career and have worked hard to get to my position, like the rest of the world, the covid-19 pandemic has been a real wake up call to dedicate my spare time to my true passions – which include my Kurdish culture, art, fashion, and most importantly, protecting our planet through sustainable living. With small steps I was able to start Ashti Apparel and come out with my first products, which are the reusable masks. With each fashion piece released, I make it a priority to make sure that it not only is inspired by the beauty found in classic Kurdish elements, but they are also sustainably made to help aid in the reduction of waste caused by the fashion industry.
